Why do parents not want their kids to have chillaxens or myspaces??

i have bothe of them but my parents dont know...i just wanna know why they are so against it. i mean im only friends with ppl i know.... :(

The problem is that it takes very little information to find out who and where you are. There are a lot of crazy people out there and it only takes a picture and a city and state for them to find you.

They can also pick up on your personality and habits based upon what you write on your my space page. For example if you say that you like a certain restaurant and if they figure out the name of your town they can find you by watching your favorite restaurant. If you wear a high school t-shirt in your picture or have souvenirs from your school sports in the background than they can find you by watching your school.

Because an innocent web site can attract real scum bags, and an simple slip of the tongue (such as where you go to school or the town you live in) can allow that scum bag to find you and hurt you.

I do not allow my daughter to have myspace - and I am lucky enough to be web-savy enough to know whether not she is using our computer to acces them.

Your parents are not being mean, they are being concerned and cautious.

Yeah I know, I mean my parents let me have a myspace, but they don't like it LoL.

I don't see the difference between your parents LETTING you have an AIM account, and your parents NOT LETTING you have a MySpace account.

you wont realise this now... but your parents just wantto look out for you and soon you will have to take care of your self. please listen because there are so many that dont then end up dead under a bridge.

Well, my dad kind of freaked out when he found out I had a myspace. He had friends and people he worked with tell him that I would die if I had a myspace. It's all a matter of if someone has basic common sense or not. MySpace should not be treated like an "evil" website. The children who are on it should be told right from wrong. Otherwise, they're stupid. And they really don't need to be on myspace at all, because they ruin it for everyone.

People take myspace way out of proportion, and it's really not as bad. There are no more predators on myspace that there are on the internet in general. Plain and simple.

There are way too many predators out there for a child to be on there unmonitored.... Even though you may feel you are safe, they sometimes sneak through...

I have a 14 year old daughter with a myspace. I know her access code and I approve pictures and content on her page. Now mind you, she has never done anything to make me distrust her, so she pretty much has had free reign over her myspace account. I have never once read her emails, never once deleted anything, in fact, i never even logged in under her.

It is all about trust. If you trust your children, and monitor what they are viewing, your child can remain a little bit safer. If you feel you have to hide things or be dishonest with your parents about your accounts then you arent staying safe. Not saying you will be a prime target for perverts or anything, but you should always be open with your parents. If your myspace or other spot is OK, and doesnt have any inappropriate content, your parents really shouldn't be upset.

Bottom line though is and I know you hate to hear it- you are under their roof until you are eighteen. It is their house, their rules, respect goes a long way. But i suggest being open on the reason you want one, and allow your parents to monitor.

Quite simply ANYONE can be whomever they wish to be on the internet.You can't tell gender, age or a persons true character on the internet. what is fact or fantasy on the internet.Sure it can be fun to chat but there a real dangers out there. Every victim who was lured over the internet was also sure they wouldn't fall prey to a predator. Your parents love you and only want to try keep you safe.Why don't your parents want you on these sites? They never want to be the parent of a victim and regret they weren't there to protect you.

Generally speaking it is because it does not take much to figure out who you are. Even if you give fake information or try to hide your information it can get through. Though you may only be friends with people you know. You cannot guarantee that those people are only friends with people THEY know. Therefore, they can still track you down. Additionally, the information between you and your friends can help decipher a lot about you.

Lastly, a hacker could break into your account and find out a lot of information about you and your friends.

Honestly, parents are just freaking out about predators. It is not a high percentage, but if it happens. It is horrible. My space is not HORRIBLE but you have to be VERY careful with it.
